Welcome to Spring!  It’s officially here.  Now we’re just waiting for some decent weather!

The plants are all busy coming out of dormancy.   Buds are swelling and things will be happening really soon!

It’s a great time to:

Plant trees and shrubs

Fertilize, especially plants that struggled last year during the drought.

Prune out dead branches

Shorten down your Knock Out Roses if you haven’t done that yet.

Edge garden beds to keep the grass from growing into them.

Mulch flower beds for weed control.   Get a step ahead of those darn weeds.

Apply Preen pre-emergent to prevent weed seeds from germinating  – it does not kill existing weeds.

Clean out your wren and bluebird houses.    This is the time.  They are out there scouting for a nesting spot.

Reseed your lawn.  April is the perfect time to plant grass seed.

Rake large clumps of last year’s leaves off ground cover to prevent dead spots.

Do NOT prune Lilacs, Forsythia, Big Leaf Hydrangeas, Quince.   You will be cutting off  their flowers.

Ready to beef up your garden soil?    We have a new local source for beautiful compost in bags, brimming with living organic goodies to make your plants healthy and vigorous.

NATURALLY BETTER is made right here in southwest Michigan.   We have a bed mix called Garden Growth for raised beds, Turbo Top Soil which would be wonderful for patching bare spots in your lawn before reseeding, and Soil Supplement is excellent as a soil booster and for revitalizing poor soil.   Pick up a brochure and read more about it.

We have just received fresh loads of top soil and our beautiful compost.  We are at the ready to deliver it to you or we can load you up any time we are open, which is Monday – Saturday 9 to 5 and Sundays 10 to 4…. (except we are closed Easter Sunday).     Our customers who have been using our compost are thrilled and keep coming back for more.

We received our first load of plants yesterday.  More are coming daily.   It’s an exciting time of the year!

We have pots of Daffodils, Tulips and Hyacinths, in case you missed your window of opportunity in the fall.

Don’t even think about marigolds and petunias and tomato plants yet.   You’ve got another month to wait for those!  Warmer weather will be here eventually.

We  look forward to seeing your smiling faces at Huntree!   Our customers are our joy!  We’re ready to help you make just the right selections for your yard.

Peace and Love,

Jan and the Huntree Gang
